Off Highway Vehicle PatrolOregon State Parks and Recreation contracts with the Sheriff's Office on a grant basis for patrol, education and enforcement activity for two OHV riding areas in the county. These areas are located on National Forest lands.
The emphasis of the patrols is safety and the enhancement of family oriented outdoor activity. The Sheriff's Office owns and maintains two ATV's (All Terrain Vehicle) which were purchased with ATV Grant Funds. The ATV's are used to patrol the trails and insure that visitors have a quality riding experience.
Marine PatrolWasco County also provides marine patrol on the county waterways during the summer months. Search and Rescue Volunteers and Reserve Deputies may assist the marine deputy and receive specialized training to enable them to assist with the marine program.
The emphasis of this program is boater safety. The marine deputy patrols the rivers and lakes and monitors boat operation and inspects watercraft to insure that required safety equipment is on board. The goal is to reduce boat accidents and personal injury or drowning.
