The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 124 bridges in Wasco County. Bob Turner, Rick Saldivar and Charlie Hanna are the County's bridge maintenance experts. Each bridge in Wasco County is inspected every two (2) years. The inspectors complete a bridge inspection report on each structure which includes a general appraisal and rating of the bridge's condition. This report also contains recommendations for repairs that could be done to improve the bridges. After each inspection cycle, we go over the maintenance recommendations that were made and work up a Bridge Maintenance Schedule for Wasco County.
The maintenance schedule consists of the following types of repair work:
Guardrail
Shoulders & Embankment
Decks
Joints
Structural Members
Crack Sealing & Epoxy
Concrete & Masonry
Scour & Rip-Rap
Most of our bridge work takes place in the summer, when the creeks are at their lowest flow. All in-water-work is performed after July 1, and approved through the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
